Bangladesh have won the second and final T20I to whitewash Afghanistan as Bangladesh beat the visitors by six wickets at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Sunday.


Bangladesh had a great start to chase 119 runs (D/L method Target) with the opening pair of Litton Das and Afif Hossain as 50 runs were added to the score board in 5 overs of the power play.


For the first time in international cricket, Afif opened the innings and had a 50-run partnership with Litton.


Before this, Afif and Litton started the innings regularly for the Rajshahi Royals of the Bangladesh Premier League of the 2019-20 season.


After the end of the power play, the run came to a halt. Litton, Afif may have felt the pressure of not getting many runs in consecutive overs.


Litton played a shot inside out looking for a boundary off Mujeeb ur Rahman but Rashid Khan standing at cover jumped to the right side and took a great catch with one hand.


The wicket-keeper batter was dismissed for 35 runs off 36 balls with 6 fours. His departure broke the opening pair of 67 runs. One ball later Afif followed him to the pavilion.


The left-handed opener slogs a full length delivery outside the off stump. But he was caught at deep mid-wicket by Karim Janat.

Captain Shakib al Hasan managed the tremble with young Towhid Hridoy with 31 runs partnership off 21 balls. However, Hridoy departed for 19 and couldn’t take the team to the finishing line.


Shakib (18 off 11) finished the job in the last for and secured a six wicket victory.


Earlier, Rain forced second T20I match to cut short to 17 overs, but Afghanistan still managed to score 116 for 7 against Bangladesh. The Tigers D/L method target was 119. 


After being given the opportunity to bat first, the visitors overcame their initial hitches and were eventually reduced to five for 67.


However, Oamarzai and Janat put together a 42-run stand to raise Afghanistan's total to 116.


Omarzai led the team in scoring with a 21-ball 25, and Janat needed 15 balls to get to 20.


Taskin Ahmed took three wickets for Bangladesh, Shakib and Mustafizur Rahman each took two.



The speed-star struck twice in the Powerplay to leave Afghanistan two down for 34 after the end of the first six before rain stopped play.


Taskin removed opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the very first over of the innings.


The dismissal made Taskin the third Bangladeshi bowler, behind Shakib and Mustafizur, to claim his 50th T20I wicket.


The 28-year-old came back in the third over and nicked off the other opener Hazratullah Zazai for a five-ball four.


Mustafizur Rahman broke through with the wicket of Mohammad Nabi (16), who made a half-century in the first game.


Shakib got into act with the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran who hit a four and six in his 27 ball-22 and Najibullah Zadran (5).
