Bangladesh Women's cricket team clinched their maiden ODI win over India by registering a 40-run win (D/L Method) in the first ODI at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur.

Tigress restricted India to 113-10 in 35.5 overs while defending a mediocre 153 runs. Marufa Akter was the pick of the bowling attack, returned a figure of four wickets conceding 29 runs in seven overs.

India suffered the first blow when Smriti Mandhana (11) was castled by Marufa early in the chase. The seamer struck again to remove another opener Priya Punia (10).

India lost three more wickets in the middle and were slumped to 61-5. Then, Deepti Sharma joined hands with Amanjot Kaur but failed to extend their 30-run partnership as Marufa returned Kaur to claim her third.

Marufa axed Sneh Rana for naught to complete for-fer in consecutive deliveries. Apart from her, Rabeya Khan took three wickets Nahida and Sultana Akhter took apiece.

After being invited to bat first, Bangladesh managed to muster 152 runs in the allotted 44 overs. India’s decision to bowl first proved right when they removed both openers Murshida Khatun (13) and Sharmin Akter (0) within the first powerplay.

Then captain Joty and Fargana Haque piled up a 49-run partnership for the third wicket, which steadied the Tigress before AB Kaur struck to break their stand.

Following the dismissal of Fargana for 27, Bangladesh continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Joty scored the highest 39 off 64 with three boundaries while Fahima Khatun and Sultana Khatun played brief innings.

Amanjot Kaur picked up four wickets and Devika Vaidya scalped two for India.

Bangladesh and India will play the second and third ODI on July 19 and 22 at the same venue.
