Afghanistan have won the first ODI by 17 runs (DLS method) as earlier Bangladesh have managed to score 169 in the rain-hit first ODI against Afghanistan at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.

Afghanistan scored 83 runs for the cost of two wickets in response to Bangladesh's 164 before the third and final rain delay.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, Afghanistan's openers, pulled together a 54-run partnership until Gurbaz fell to Shakib Al Hasan after scoring a 45-ball 22, giving Afghanistan a strong start. But Zadran stood tall and was still unbeaten on 41.

The other wicket that was lost was Rahmat Shah. After managing a 14-ball eight, the right-handed batter stole one off Taskin Ahmed and hit it to the keeper.

For his three wickets for 24 runs, Fazalhaq Farooqi was named the game's player of the match.

The rain came in 15.1 overs as Shakib-Towhid Hridoy tried to pull the early three-wicket loss. After the loss of seven wickets, the match was stopped for the second time due to rain in the 35th over.

Despite losing the toss, the hosts got a 30-run start. Skipper Tamim Iqbal, who came down to play despite 'not being 100% fit', returned for 13 runs in the seventh over.

The other opener Litton Das returned to the pavilion scoring 26 runs with two fours and a six. After Najmul Hossain Shanto departed with 12 runs, Bangladesh suffered a third shock at 72 runs on board.

Shakib got out for 15 runs off 38 balls. Later, Mushfiqur Rahim scored 1 run, and he was bowled by Rashid Khan.

Hridoy brought up his third ODI fifty as he scored 69-ball 51, which was the highest individual score in the disappointing batting effort by the Tigers.

Afif Hossian (4) returned to the side but failed to help Bangladesh, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz also disappoint with five runs.

Farooqi bagged three wickets, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid picked up two each.
