Whatmore joins Montreal Tigers as head coach

World Cup-winning coach Dav Whatmore has joined Montreal Tigers as the head coach for the upcoming Global T20 Canada.
The Sri Lankan-born Australian cricket coach and former cricketer has vast coaching experience, he has also worked with Bangladesh national cricket team in 2005.
The 67-year-old’s biggest achievement came when Sri Lanka won the 1996 ODI World Cup during his tenure.

Whatmore has also taken a role in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He joined the team in 2010 but stepped down the very next year.
He played in seven Test matches and a single one-day international before moving into coaching.
Montreal has roped Shakib Al Hasan as an Icon player for the upcoming edition of GT20 Canada 2023. Therefore, Shakib will get another opportunity to play under his childhood coach.
West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell will also play for the same team as an icon cricketer.
The last Global T20 League was held in 2019. The tournament didn’t see light for three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This season will be held from July 20 to August 6.
