The first match of the three-match ODI series between Bangladesh and Ireland has been called off due to persistent rain at County Ground Chelmsford, England on Tuesday.

In response to the 247-run target, Ireland managed to score 65-3 in 16.3 overs before the arrival of rain.  According to the rules, a minimum of 20 overs have to be played for a result in case of rain.

With this outcome, South Africa have secured a direct qualification for the 2023 World Cup, which will be held in India later this year.

Ireland required to win all three matches of this series in order to move up from eleventh place in the points table.

Batting first Bangladesh made 246-9 in 50 overs with the help of Mushfiqur Rahim's remarkable half-century on his Birthday.

The visitors failed to make an ideal start as they lost opener Liton Das for nought in the very first over. IPL returnee Josh Little bowled an in-swinging yorker on off-stump, getting the right-hander out leg-before.
