Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar has struggled to regain his form and failed to come back in the international arena for Tigers.

The left-hander made a big splash when he entered the international scene in 2014, but he is now having trouble in domestic cricket.

However, he was included into the squad for the T20I tri-nation series in New Zealand right before the World Cup but he failed to come up with impact needed and was dropped after the Australia World Cup.

In the Dhaka Premier League this season, he had trouble to score big runs in his eight innings, he has struck one fifty, with his 26-ball 41 against the Legends of Rupganj being the only significant at-bat performance.

"Not getting what is expected off Soumya. He was in the national team just a few days ago too and he has notable performances for Bangladesh which were match-winning performances," selector Habibul Bashar told the media today at Fatullah during the DPL match between Mohammedan and Brothers Union.

In preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup, the national team has been attempting to assemble a group of players. The selector believed Soumya would produce stronger knocks.

"He is still in our thoughts. If he does well in domestic cricket, our pool of players will be bigger. We also believe and there is no doubt about his ability but also a little disappointed," he added.

"Everyone is talking to him. He is being given the mental support he needs but sometimes, a cricketer has to save himself. He has been playing for a while and is not a new cricketer. He is experienced and he has to find out by himself how he will have to play," the selector said.
