Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud Sujon stated on Monday that the team intended to experiment with newcomers in the T20I format and this is not the end of senior players like Mahmudullah Riyad or Mushfiqur Rahim in T20Is.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) hosted a lunch with team management and players at a city hotel today with the hopes of boosting the morale of cricketers who may be going through a difficult period.

Bangladesh Cricket Board Friday named 33-T20I old Nurul Hasan Sohan the captain for the upcoming three-match T20I series away to Zimbabwe in place of all-rounder Mahmudullah, the regular T20I skipper, who has been rested on the back of his off-form in recent times.

Middle-order batter Mushfiq, who missed the previous T20I series away to the West Indies due to hajj pilgrimage, was also rested along with all-rounder Shakib al Hasan.

"This is like a baton, someone had to take it (captaincy). Mahmudullah, Mushfiq, Shakib, Tamim, and Mashrafe are the icons of our cricket but they will not be here forever. We haven't shown our best in T20Is yet. And this is by no means the end of Mahmudullah, Mushfiq or Shakib in this format," Sujon said.

"We want to experiment with a few players and give them the proper opportunity to play in their desired position throughout the tour," he added.

Sujon also said that the board is well aware of the senior cricketers' abilities and what they can still bring to the squad. But it will be important to give the youths a proper opportunity during the tour.

"It's not the time to do a complete overhaul yet. But it doesn't mean the end of the senior cricketers, the young players need time to settle, and it is our responsibility to give them that," Sujon said

"To be honest, I will not be disappointed if we lose 3-0 against Zimbabwe in T20Is. Our main target in T20Is is to experiment which we can't do in ODIs," he added.

A few of the players will be departing tonight at 1:40 am (Tuesday) for Zimbabwe.

Pacer Hasan Mahmud, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Munim Shahriar will be accompanied by team manager Nafees Iqbal and team physio.
