27 Mar 25Despite a brave effort by opener Tamim Iqbal, Minister Group Dhaka were defeated by Chattogram Challengers by three runs in Sylhet Tuesday as the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Tamim's undefeated 56-ball 73, together with contributions from Dhaka captain Mahmudullah Riyad and all-rounder Shuvagata Hom, saw Dhaka take the game to the final delivery. However, Dhaka still fell short as they could score 145 for six while chasing a 149-run target set by Chattogram.
Dhaka were in a difficult position after losing three for just 21 in 4.2 overs while chasing a competitive total. Then Tamim and Mahmudullah combined wonderfully, stitching a 71-run fourth-wicket standoff only 59 deliveries to keep Dhaka's hopes alive.
After a poor start, Tamim and Mahmudullah began to take control of the game, and it appeared at one point that Dhaka would easily cross the finish line.

However, everything changed when Shamim Hossain, who had earlier made a crucial fifty to help Chattogram reach a competitive total, removed Mahmudullah in the 15th over with a spectacular fielding effort.

Tamim continued after Mahmudullah left after a 29-ball 24 and stitched another quick-fire 43-run stand with Shuvagata.
Shuvagata had a 22-run cameo in 11 balls, including two boundaries and a maximum, but retired in the penultimate over to Shoriful Islam after smashing the bowler for a six in the opening ball to reduce the equation to 14 from 11 deliveries.
In the end, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, bowled a magnificent final over to assist Chattogram register a thrilling win. Tamim only faced one bowl in the final over as he confronted magnificent yorker by Mrittunjoy in the final over, which only produced a single run.
Earlier, Chattogram got off to a shaky start after being asked to bat, as starter Zakir Hasan was dismissed early.
Will Jacks and Chattogram's new captain Afif Hossain put up a solid 40-run stand after the franchise replaced the former skipper Naeem Islam due to his poor form.
After losing three quick wickets in the middle, it was Shamim's 37-ball 52 and Benny Howell's unbeaten 24 that helped Chattogram to a respectable total.
