The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has compiled a list of central contracts for Bangladesh national team cricketers to May-December this year. Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal was not included in the central contract of the T20 format as he has withdrawn his name from the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Mahmudullah Riyad announced his retirement from Test cricket during the tour of Zimbabwe. As a result, he was also included in the central contract of the Test format.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon confirmed the development to the media on Wednesday (September 1) during the first T20 match of the series.
"Since Tamim said he will not play, there is no reason to keep him in the T20 format before December. He is excluded only from T20. Regarding Riyad is that he went there and announced but he didn’t talk to us. He is not in the test for that,”
Tamim did not play any T20 cricket for successive 17 months, he hurt his knee during the April-May tour of Sri Lanka and returned midway through the team's subsequent Zimbabwe tour in July. He also missed the Twenty20 series against Australia.
"I have always said that the best opener of my time is Tamim Iqbal. He did not play T20 for several days. I'm not saying in any bad sense. You have seen before that Tamim takes everything seriously,”
“He also took it seriously. He has not played T20 in New Zealand, he has played ODI in Zimbabwe, but did not play in the Australia series, now he is not with New Zealand. Many might raise questions about him going to the World Cup without playing a match,”
