Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) captain Dinesh Karthik is hopeful about their young and talented Indian batsman Shubman Gill and he said that the star player will exceed all expectations in the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).
Notably, KKR will begin their journey on September 23 against Mumbai Indians (MI). However, Gill didn’t get much opportunity to showcase his talent in the last edition of the league as there was no fixed batting position for him but this time KKR coach Brendon McCullum has already said that he will open for KKR in the entire tournament.

"Shubman is a quality player. There is a lot of expectation from him around the world, I'm sure he will exceed all expectations and I'm really confident about that," Karthik said in a virtual interaction before the game against Mumbai Indians.
Along with Gill, Sunil Narine will open for KKR and that becomes a perfect opening combination. Even, the captain said, "No complicated batting by Sunil Narine makes it easy for us. It's a very unique opening pair."
He further added, "One of the tough points for KKR at this point of time is picking the right XI. A lot of guys have put their hands up and are ready for selection. It's going to be an interesting one and a tough one but that's a good sign."
This season, KKR has new coaching set up where New Zealand great McCullum is the head coach. Moreover, they have England's 2019 World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan and Australian pacer Pat Cummins who will lead the pace unit with the youngsters like Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi, Prasidh Krishna and Sandeep Warrier.
"We are in a good space. One of our strengths is the variety we have in our pace department. All four Indian pacers are shaping up really well. It's going to be a hard decision to make who's going to start the tournament," Karthik said.
