A first-ever biopic film in Bangladesh on former Bangladesh national team’s captain ASM Raqibul Hassan will soon be made. The film will most likely begin production in October-November this year.
Raqibul Hassan himself confirmed the surprising news of the biographical film on his real life to the media on Sunday.
Hassan said that he agreed to a biopic movie to be made on his life which will make him the first sportsperson on a film and depicted on the silver screen.
Raqibul said that the film will show actual occurrences of his life with some fictional elements as per the story’s requirement.
‘There will be a biopic movie on me. I gave them a few conditions. They must establish the truth; they must show real incidents of my career,” said Raqibul Hassan, who got down batting with Joy Bangla slogan-imprinted bat to the field during the war of Liberation of Bangladesh.
“They can also add some fictitious things in the movie, I have given them that clearance,” Raqibul told the media.

The movie will be made by the banner of production house ‘Half Pant Cinema Factory’. Bunti Afzal will direct the film, while Rumana Sharmin Swati will produce it.
The script of the film will be written by sports journalist and writer Debbrata Mukherjee.
Raqibul said that he was first approached for the biopic 15 days ago by Debbrata and officially agreed to it on Sunday.
Biopic movies are mostly made on India silver screen where cricketers’ lives have been portrayed by different actors.
Raqibul’s journey to cricket, his contributions in the liberation war in 1971 and his work as an administrator in the Bangladesh Cricket Board will be depicted through the movie.
Producer Rumana Sharmin said they wanted to tell a story about Bangladesh’s great liberation war and cricket, and that’s why they chose the story of Raqibul Hasan.
“We have so many films on Bangladesh’s liberation war. But we want to make a different story about our liberation war so that the film might reach millions of people,” Rumana Sharmin said.
“We know cricket is the most popular sport in the country. We want to make the film with the mix of cricket and Liberation war,” she told Cricfenzy.com.
The producer informed the portal that they may need to spend more than 4 to 5 crore taka to make the film.
Director Bunty Afzal termed it as a dream project for him, stating that he has been working for a long time to make it possible.
“It’s a dream that is going to come true. I’ve been working on the matter for so long. Along with that, it’s a big challenge for me as I want to produce my first full-length film with it,” Bunty Afzal, who directed TV dramas called Bishchokh, Kalopodmo, Bumerang etc on small screen, told the web portal.
Afzal said they are yet to announce who will fill the shoes of Raqibul in the movie.
