Former Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe bin Mortaza considers Mahmudullah as the VVS Laxman of Bangladesh team for his nature of scoring run and also thinks that for the team he has sacrificed the most in the national dressing room.

In a Facebook live session with Tamim, Mashrafe the former skipper of Bangladesh expressed his thought about Mahmudullah that he doesn't score run when there is no need but when the team needs someone to score big and to win the match Mahmudullah is the person who knocked extraordinary innings for the team just like the cricket maestro VVS Laxman.

"I sometimes think him as VVS Laxman that there is no need to run then he don't. But when the team is in need then he is the guy I think who always step up," Mashrafe said to Tamim in the Facebook live session.   

In reply to a question of Tamim, which was how Mashrafe as a skipper always backed Mahmudullah differently from others the Narail Express said that because he thinks Mahmudullah sacrificed the most for the team sake. He thinks If it wasn't for the team then Mahmudullah wouldn't have played as a tailender batsman throughout his career rather than he would have played in the number four-five position and would have seven or eight thousand run mark beside his name.

"Look, the reason I do for Riyad is because if Riyad got a chance to bat at number four, five or six then his stats would have been different today. But for the teams benefit we had put him at number six to bat. Only because of this he had ruined many runs in his career. Only because of this that we don't have a tailender batsman who can damage. With all those things in mind, Riyad has been played in that position. He was dishearted for many times but at the end he has accepted with a smile. So I feel bad for Riyad due to that reason. He would have seven or eight thousand run beside his name. He always plays for the team," He added.
