The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Thursday said that it was weighing up legal options to see if it can reduce the punishment of all-rounder Sakib al Hasan, who was banned by International Cricket Council for two years.
BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told reporters that they have talked with their legal department already regarding the matter and was looking to all legal options on whether it can appeal or request the ICC to reduce Sakib’s ban.
‘The BCB has little to do with the matter. Sakib has accepted everything and reached an agreement with them. However, we will see what we can do,’ Nizamuddin told reporters in Mirpur.
‘We will try to work with the legal matters. We have already talked with our legal department. We will work out whether we have any chance here or not,’ he added.
The ICC on Tuesday imposed a two-year ban with a one-year suspended on Bangladesh’s Test and Twenty20 skipper after he failed to report corrupt approaches made by Indian bookie Deepak Aggarwal.

The ban will remain in force until October 29, 2020, effectively ruling out Sakib from the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in Australia next year.
The ICC in their verdict said that neither Sakib nor the ICC shall have any right of appeal against this decision and in order to avoid the one year suspended part of the sanction, Sakib must not commit any offence under the code.
Along with that, Sakib must participate promptly and fully in any anti-corruption education and rehabilitation programmes as specified by the ICC.
However, the ICC has a history of reducing the players’ ban, which encouraged the BCB to make an attempt.
Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir was originally banned for five years for involving in a spot-fixing scandal but the ICC later reduced it to four years in return for his co-operation with the sport’s anti-corruption unit.
‘It is too early to make any comment. It’s only two days we came to know about the decision. The decision was made ethically. We have to discuss about the matter in the board meeting,’ said Nizamuddin.
‘We have to discuss to what extent we can go. This is a legal process. And after knowing everything, we will decide about it,’ he added.
Nizamuddin also confirmed that Mahmudullah and Mominul Haque were appointed as Twenty20 and Test skipper respectively only for an interim basis for the India series.
He added that the decision of appointing permanent skipper in those formats will be taken in the next board meeting.
Mahmudullah had previous experience of doing captaincy in international circuit as he led Bangladesh in five Twenty20 internationals and six Tests while Mominul was yet to make his captaincy debut for the country.
‘See, Sakib was our Test and Twenty20 skipper. We have India series and the team has already gone there. We had to make quick decision in this regard. We will decide about it [regular skipper] in next board meeting,’ he added.
