Bangladesh Test and Twenty 20 skipper Shakib al Hasan said that Bangladesh Cricket Board’s new rule to play mandatory leg spinner in the play eleven in the upcoming edition of Bangladesh Premier League won’t be beneficial.

BCB had stated that every team participating in the upcoming BPL will have to play a leg spinner and a pace bowler who bowls over 140 kmp in the  playing XI.

Off late Bangladesh Cricket Board has been very vocal and they dismissed two local coaches for not playing in their playing XI.

“I think that leg spinners should bowl a lot of overs in first-class cricket to gain confidence and consistency," Shakib was quoted in a Bengali daily

"The BPL is an international-standard competitive tournament where you will face scenarios that you are likely to face in international cricket.

You share the dressing room with overseas cricketers. It is not the place to make a play.”

Shakib also feels the board is getting too fast to search for the leg spinner as Bangladesh did not have any local leg spinner playing in the national league for decades.

For so many years we couldn't select a legspinner for the senior team, but suddenly we made plans to include seven legspinners in the BPL. This decision does come as a bit of a surprise, but I would still state that the board has taken a decision that it thinks is good." Said Shakib
