Two-time Bangladesh Premier League champion coach Mohammad Salahuddin took a swipe at Bangladesh Cricket Board asking them to bring foreign directors to run the board effectively.

Salahuddin, known to be the best in the business as far as local coach is concerned will be barred to take part in the upcoming edition of BPL as the BPL governing council said that each team will have a foreign head coach and local coaches can only assist them.

Mahbub Anam, a member of the BPL governing council said that they are running the BPL to develop the cricket of the country and as a result a team must have a leg spinner and a bowler who can bowl at 140 kmp.

’We are looking for leg spinners. When a franchise came into a tournament they are more interested in winning and as a result in some areas we are lacking in the national team. So we have taken suggestion from the national team and they insisted they need leg spinners and so we have decided that every team will have to play a leg spinner and he have to complete his four-over quota and that will also ensure that he is playing in the best XI,’’ said Mahbub.

‘’And we want that those international fast bowlers must bowl around 140 kmp because we want to grow our players through this balancing act. We want to make sure that our batsmen and bowlers get enough opportunities [against quicks and legspinners], something that was not possible when it was a franchise-based BPL," he said

‘’Because BCB is spending the money we want to use it for the development of cricket,’’ he added but that was not the case when his attention was drawn about the coaching staff on whether they will be foreign or local coaches as he said local coaches can only assist them.

‘’Each team will have one director leading the sides while he added that they have got good amount of foreign coaches interested to be part of BPL while each team will have an overseas physiotherapist and trainer and local coaches can only work as assistants to the head coaches in the upcoming edition,’’ Mahbub concluded.

In reply to this double standard, Salahuddin lambasted BCB in his Facebook status that was posted hours after the decision was made public through the media.

‘’Today I realized that the standard of local coaches is not good. Trainers are not up to the mark while the physio was joking for so long. Everywhere foreign will come is good then why don’t you bring any foreign directors for BCB, it is alright that the coach trainer and physios are not of international standard then how come you [ directors] think that you are of international standard. You are all like us. You should bring foreign directors,’’ Salahuddin, who guided Comilla Victorians to championship on two occasions, wrote on his Facebook status.

The dual standard of BCB regarding local coaches is nothing new and it was highlighted once again when former game development coach Nazmul Abedin left his job after the serving the organization for so 14 long years.

Nazmul stated that he was not properly used and as a result he decided to join BKSP.

BCB had always been keen to have foreign coaches in every sphere of their project that includes national set-up to game development project along with women’s team.
