Bangladesh senior trio- Mohammad Ashraful, Abdur Razzak and Tushar Imran looks all set to feature in the National Cricket League after making drastic improvement in their fitness.
Though the trio could not avail the required 11 points in their second attempt it seems Bangladesh Cricket Board will consider them eligible for the country’s traditional first-class competition, scheduled to start from October 10.
BCB introduced the beep test in the NCL last year with the minimum requirement of nine points. However, the mark was increased to 11 points for the upcoming season.
BCB made beep test mandatory for all the players eyeing to take part in the NCL while in order to enhance the physical fitness board has raised the benchmark for the beep test.

Last year BCB introduced the fitness test in the NCL and it was decided that players getting nine points will be considered for the traditional first-class tournament but this year it had increased to 11 points and it had raised quite a few eyebrows as large numbers of cricketers complained that they have not got enough time to prepare them for the beep test as they were informed the only couple of days back about this development.
The move did not go well with the seniors as most of them failed to cross the hurdle during their first attempt on October 1, leaving their NCL participation in doubt.
BCB decided to hold another beep test for the disqualified cricketers on Sunday and though none of the seniors could get 11 points everyone earned at least 10 points to stake a claim for a place in the 14-member divisional squad.
‘’As I told before that we have set 11 point as the minimum requirement but in some case we will consider age, form and fitness but we won’t give any bench mark and it will vary from person to person,’’ national selector Habibul Bashar told daily sun on Sunday.
‘’As for example, Razzak- he is performer, he won’t get the result in the beep test like others and we need to consider these three things- form-fitness-age for some of the cricketers,’’ he said.
They could not reach 11 point today and now Nannu bhai[ chief selector] and me will decide how we will consider them and in which criteria but Ashraful, Razzak and Tushar Imran have all the probability to play in the NCL,’’ he said adding that they need to pass the bench mark in future.
‘’But they have to pass the bench mark in future. They have to increase the fitness in the game. [They] have to give time sometimes in between the games of NCL,’’ he said.
‘’It won’t be possible to play BCL [without achieving the required fitness mark]. I mean we won’t consider anyone in further tournaments after NCL who are unable to get the stipulated points in beep test,’’ he said.
