BPL need to have consistency in playing condition- Moody

Rangpur Riders head coach Tom Moody urged for consistency when it comes to setting rules and regulations, which have constantly changed across almost every edition Bangladesh Premier League.
Ahead of every season the disputes over setting "new rules" to accommodate certain advantage to a team or teams making so much chaos and aberrations that these anomalies become the headlines rather than the actual tournament.
There has been a lot of discussion since the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) governing council disclosed plans for a new four-year cycle, but their communication seems arbitrary given how everything is set to change in the upcoming season, with the sixth edition having marked the end of the first cycle.
The recent such thing to catch all attentions was the BPL GC’s decision to reset the existing regulations and start fresh from the seventh edition of the tournament which is set to start in December this year.
The decision has not only irked majority of the franchises who were setting a tone for the upcoming season but pushed Rangpur Riders to the limit and made the franchise threaten to exit from the T20 competition.
Basking with 12 years of coaching experience in T20 leagues around the world, Tom Moody, the former Australian cricketer, believes the integrity of the tournament can be questioned both locally and internationally if rules are frequently changing.
“Having been involved in many T20 leagues over the past 12 years it has become very clear that one of the most important elements is the consistency of the playing conditions and the rules set out for the franchises,” said Rangpur head coach Moody to the media Wednesday.
“It is not important only for the franchises or the management, it is crucial for the fan base to have an understanding of what playing group not only local but international they are following. It gives them a loyal fan base. If we see things constantly changing on a whim the integrity of the tournament can be questioned both locally and internationally,” the former Australia batsman added.
Since 2016, icon players have been free to change franchises. Since then, icons have made moves every season and those have always caused controversy. In fact, rule changes were made after 2016 as well. In 2016 only two local players could be retained, but in 2017 four local players could be retained.
