Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon came down heavily on former Bangladesh head coach Steve Rhodes on Wednesday, pointing out the former coach’s some mistakes during the World Cup.
Rhodes and BCB parted ways soon after the World Cup, a thing that the board termed as mutual separation. Bangladesh finished at eighth position in 10-team tournament even though they came here with high hope of moving into the semifinal.

The BCB chief particularly raised an issue regarding a practice session before the World Cup. BCB arranged a practice session but Rhodes made that practice session optional. So, many players were absent in that practice session as it was optional.
Papon said that lots of money were wasted because of it.
"Before the World Cup we arranged a practice session. But we didn’t have any practice there. He [Rhodes] made it optional that’s why no one came. It’s a cultural mismatch. He thought players will practice on their own will. But this doesn’t go with us. It was optional that’s why no one came. No good came out from it. We spent a lot of money to make the arrangements," Papon said at the press conference on Wednesday.
But he termed Rhodes as a gentleman.
"He [Rhodes] is a good person. There is no doubt about it. Everyone has their own coaching style. Everybody also differs in their thinking. We have a thinking process too. Some coaches think, why should we be serious, it’s just a game. Some coaches think we must win by any means. Some think what to bother about winning or losing? They don’t think we must win. There some differences among these," Papon added.
