Bangladesh head coach Steve Rhodes said that they were hoping Indian opener Rohit Sharma will give another chance before completing his ton against them at Edgbaston.
Rohit gave Bangladesh a chance early in his innings when he was batting at nine runs. He skied a ball over the square leg region, Tamim Iqbal was underneath it but unfortunately, the Bangladeshi dropped it. And later on, it turned out to be the match-deciding moment. After being dropped Rohit scored 104 runs, which was his fourth consecutive hundred in this World Cup.
With Rohit’s century, India piled up 315 runs which proved too much for the Tigers in the end. But Bangladesh coach Steve Rhodes was hoping Rohit would sky another one and give Bangladesh a chance to redeem themselves but it wasn’t meant to be.

“I've watched a lot of cricket over the years and played a lot of cricket, and you know that any drop can be costly. I didn't know how costly it would be. I was hoping he'd hit another one up in the air a little bit sooner”, Rhodes said at the post-match press conference.
He also said if batsman like Rohit or Virat Kohli gets a chance they will make you pay. And that Rohit did by picking up his 26th ODI hundred and putting up an opening stand of 180 runs with KL Rahul.
“Rohit Sharma, what a wonderful batsman he is in world cricket. You give guys like him a chance or Kohli a chance, and you may well pay the price,” Rhodes added.
Although Tamim missed the crucial catch, Rhodes backed Tamim by saying he is one of the reliable fielders of the Bangladesh team. That’s why he was a little bit surprised when Tamim dropped the catch but the Englishman said as a human being it can happen to anyone.
“The person who dropped it was Tamim, and he's got one of our -- he's developed into one of our safer pair of hands in the outfield, so it was a little bit of a surprise, but he's human, and we're all human,” said Rhodes.
“I've dropped lots of catches in my life. I think everybody who's played the game has dropped catches, but sometimes they can be very, very costly, and that one proved to be,” added Rhodes.
With this 28 runs defeat against India, Bangladesh’s semifinal hope is well and truly over. Tigers will play their last match against Pakistan on July 5 at Lords.
