Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan became the first player in history to have scored 500 runs and scalp 10 wickets in one edition of World Cup.
Shakib was 24 runs shy off the 500-run mark in this World Cup. He reached the milestone when he pulled a Hardik Pandya delivery behind square towards deep fine leg to take a single in the 18th over of the Tigers’ ongoing game against India at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Tuesday.
Shakib became the 10th batsman to have scored 500 runs in one edition of World Cup to join the elite list of players.
‘’Shakib, I think, he's been doing whatever he can do. I mean, he's been doing everything on his batting, on his fielding, on his bowling. He's done everything that he could have done. To be honest, he's been the best performer, to me, and for my team, I think he's been the best performer in this World Cup,” Bangladesh skipper Mashrafee said regarding the performance of the inform all-rounder.
Shakib, who earlier became only the second player after India’s Yuvraj Singh to bag a fifer and also score a fifty during his match winning performance against Afghanistan, has already scalped 11 wickets in the World Cup.
