Left-arm spinner Mosharraf Hossain Rubel has been diagnosed with glioma, a type of tumour that starts in the glial cells of the brain or the spine.

It was learnt that Mosharraf’s treatment will cost around Tk40 lakhs and that the cricketer is looking to seek some financial assistance from the BCB.

Mosharraf, who played five ODIs for Bangladesh, will soon be applied for financial help from cricket’s governing body in the country. In reply, BCB cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan informed that the BCB will soon take initiative to support the finances for the treatment of Mosharraf.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that several teams represented by Mosharraf in domestic circuit in the recent past have come forward to support him. BPL T20 franchises Comilla Victorians and Khulna Titans have been known to have extended their support, along with Dhaka Premier League side Gazi Group Cricketers.

Gazi Group had roped in Mosharraf from the DPL players’ draft for the ongoing season, only to see the player get ruled out from the tournament due to the illness.

National players were vocal regarding backing him after knowing about it from New Zealand while senior cricketers like Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal had contacted him for giving him mental support before he flew to Singapore.
