Bangladesh Cricket Board official urged Shakib al Hasan to manage his workload in the upcoming Indian Premier League so that he is fit and fresh in the upcoming edition of World Cup.

BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus said that they have provided clearance to Shakib Al Hasan to take part in the upcoming IPL though he is unavailable for the last Test against New Zealand he is given further 10 day’s rest by the BCB medical team after assessing his condition on March 10.

Shakib was ruled out of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand and the following three-match Test series after sustaining a finger injury during the Bangladesh Premier League final between Dhaka Dynamites and Comilla Victorians as he suffered a fracture after sustaining a blow from Thisara Perera while batting.

“He is recovering but still he is given 10-day rest. If he regains his fitness during this time frame still he is not available for last Test match against New Zealand,’’ said BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus told reporters on Wednesday.

“Afterwards if he gets fit and doctor allows him to play then he can play across formats. Not only IPL if there was any game of Bangladesh he would have participated there,’’ he said.

Jalal added that they are aware of his injury status and believed he will be making sure that he plays in such a manner that it doesn’t have any impact as far as his World Cup is concerned.

“We are well aware of it [ Shakib injury concern] and so we decided not put any pressure on him whether it is playing the IPL or any other tournament because our target is to get him in World Cup,’’ said Jalal.

“I don’t think there should be any restriction regarding participating in the IPL because if a player is fit he can go and play. But he must remember that he needs to make sure that he doesn’t get injured. We have given the clearance to play in IPL,’’ he said.

“But how much he will play and what he will do he needs to decide because he needs to protect himself. It can be like he played in a couple of matches while returning back without playing a few matches. But we cannot ask any player that he cannot go. If the board think he is fit then he can go,’’ he concluded.
