Skipper Rakibul leads Mohammedan to victory

Skipper Rakibul Hasan knocked an unbeaten 82 that helped Mohammedan Sporting Club to clinch a 3-wicket win over Gazi Group Cricketers on the day two of the Dhaka Premier League 2019 held in BKSP on Saturday.
Earlier, Gazi Group all dismissed at 182 in 45.2 overs. Shamsul smashed unbeaten 71 while Tarek scored 56. Shafiul Islam claimed 5 for 32 and Sohag Gazi took 2 for 17. In reply, Mohammedan lost 7 wickets to reach the target in 45.2 overs. Ruyel and Rabbi took 2 wickets each.
Mohammedan bowlers successfully restricted Gazi Group at a mediocre total after electing to bowl first. However, Gazi fallen into trouble when they top 3 wickets for 3 runs only. Opener Mehidy Hasan dismissed for 1 while Rony Talukdar was sent back for the naught. Shamshur Rahman and captain Imrul Kayes were also failed and Kayes returned for 7 runs, followed by Rayhan Uddin (1) and Parvez Rasool. Gazi were 6 for 26 while Tawhid Tarek along with wicketkeeper-batsman Shamsul Islam took the charge and added 101-run in their seventh-wicket stand.
The pair was broken by Mohammad Ashraful as he sent back Tarek for 56. But Shamsul was still on the crease and build another 51-run partnership with Abu Haidar Rony in the eighth-wicket stand. Rony added 26 runs before his departure. However, Gazi finally managed to post 182 and Shamsul remained unbeaten with 71.

In chasing of 183, Mohammedan faced a batting collapse and lost their top 6 wickets for 87. They got the early blow when Ruyel Mia dismissed opener Abdul Majid dismissed for 13, followed by Mohammad Ashraful (0). After then, Kamrul Hasan Rabbi dismissed another opener Avishek Mitra (24) and Irfan Shukkur in his same over. MSC lost the fifth wicket of Nadif Chowdhury (1) for a total of 51 runs.
After then, skipper Rakibul Hasan along with Bipul Sharma tried to resist adding 37-run in their sixth-wicket stand. But the pair was broken as Sharma was being run out for 9. However, the skipper alone continued his resistance and tried to build up some pairs with tailender-batsmen including Sohag Gazi, who added 29 runs before departure. Finally, skipper Rakibul’s heroic effort reversed the game and Mohammedan ended the match 187 for 7.
