While Bangladesh cricket is going ahead with passing days the same is not the case when commentary is taken into consideration as the country lag behind when it comes to skilled commentators.
Neither analytical points of views are highlighted like the way Harsha Bhogle tends to do it nor there is an element of entertainment attached with it like some of the legendary commentators have done so far at the international circuit to make a name for themselves.
To make thing worse they provide wrong information and fictitious analyses to local and global cricket fans and due to their lobbying in the Bangladesh Cricket Board, they are not allowing others to flourish.
The commentators like Mehrab Hossain Jr (one of the prominent Test cricketers of Bangladesh), Shahriar Nafees have not got regular opportunities, though they are doing this job for the last two years.
"We are the newcomers in the international cricket. The commentary is also a new sector for us as like as the other sectors. Our seniors, for example, Atahar vai, Shamim Ashraf Chowdhury bhai are doing great. Our second-generation cricketers or the next generation may able to fill up those gaps slowly. Our next generation from the both- playing or non-playing backgrounds will take interest in this sector. Of course, there are lots of chances here,’’ Shahriar told Cricfrenzy during the final of Dhaka Premier League Twenty20 competition.

“The scenario will change when the second generation cricketers of Bangladesh such as Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal will come into the commentary. They have to change the fate of Bangladeshi commentary as like as how they have changed the whole situation of Bangladesh cricket,’’ he said
“Keep patience… it will take time. The opportunity will certainly come. The demand of Bangladeshi commentators, journalists, media and others will be increased day by day with the progress of the country’s cricket.”
Shahriar Nafees has been appreciated in his debut as a commentator in the year 2017 during the Bangladesh-Australia series but are not seen regularly in the commentary box both at the international and domestic circuit and Shahriar believe his involvement in domestic cricket plays a big part behind it.
There are different scenarios in Australia's Big Bash. Senior cricketers such as Kevin Peterson, Brandon McCullum, Kumar Sangakkara also play a role as commentators in the ongoing matches. Darren Sammy, David Hussey and Mark Boucher have also been commentators in the IPL. But, there is no such thing in the BPL or the DPL T-20.
“It's a little bit difficult to continue these two things parallelly. If I play in a tournament as part of any team, then I can’t make any commentary at that time. But, if a player does not play in the tournament, then it may be easy for him. Such as, I have played in this tournament. But now I’m not playing right now. Perhaps that is why Gazi TV and BCB have given me the opportunity to do this thing. It is a good experience for me,’’ said Shahriar.
"The second generation cricketers will come gradually. They will get more chances and, obviously, they will do this. This culture will come slowly. I believe it will come. In the course of time, the new cultures will come. I think there will be more chances to do these things near future," Nafees said as the explanation in the perspective of Bangladesh.
"Explaining the game as a cricketer perhaps is not very difficult. But to follow directions of production such as when should we talk, when should we take a break, how to talk etc are challenging for us,’’ he said.
It is a challenge for us to have the specifications of the production, when the time to take a break, when to speak, how to speak, it is a challenge for us. It is not so easy, though it seems easy from the distance. We easily comment on why it is happening, why is it not. But people will learn as much as they do,’’ he concluded
However, Shahriar, who has played 24 Tests for the country, didn’t believe that the successful cricketer isn’t always a successful commentator.
