Bangladesh spin coach Sunil Joshi believes lack of proper preparation and inability of visitor’s spinners to adapt with the condition as a major reason behind their failure in New Zealand.
Bangladesh have been cleanly swept away in the three-match ODI series while they are staring at an innings defeat after they were trailing by 307 runs with only six wickets in hand.
The home side declared their first innings on record 715-6 riding on an unbeaten double century of skipper Kane Williamson before reducing Bangladesh to 174-4 at stumps on day three.
Bangladesh, who were all for 234 runs in the first innings before conceding a huge 481-run deficit initially will need to put something extraordinary to make New Zealand bat again.
“If you look at the conditions and what we use at home, you need to have e good preparation. If you look at the preparation coming into this tour was… all the national team players were playing in the BPL,’’ Joshi told reporters after the match.
“I am not blaming that. But they did not have the ideal preparation. We are not complaining about that. Again depends on the individual. You look at Tamim, what Tamim did, he adapted to the conditions, right? It’s again up the players, individual players how you take it, how you prepare yourself,’’ he said adding that mindset plays a big role in their performance.
“We need to change our mindset how to play this part of the world especially in Test cricket,’’ he said. “I think it’s a very thin line. Most of the western team comes to the subcontinent pitches, they always struggle when the ball is spinning. So it’s again, how you interpret, how you look at it, what sort of condition you look at. It’s all challenges for the bowler. Specially Miraz, he is a young star. He will learn throughout the years,’’ he said.
“We have seen some of the bowler's name on the list. Harbhajan we have seen, we have seen Anil, we have seen quite a lot of players who have struggled. So obviously we have to give that much leverage to our young bowler. I am sure he will come out successful,’’ he said.
Sunil believes spinner failed to bowl in the right areas. “When you bowl to the top order batsmen on a first-day pitch, you need to be very discipline. As a finger spinner, you don’t have much choice on the first-day pitch. So you need to bowl right areas, hitting a good length and be consistent and give support to the first bowling options,’’ said Sunil.
“Similar way our spinner they adapt to the conditions and situation. You need to change your mindset about how you progress in this form of venues,’’ he added.
