Shimron Hetmyer and Sheldon Cottrell helped West Indies to equal the five-match-series 1-1, beating England by 26-run in the second ODI in Barbados on Friday. With this victory, Windies ended their 10-match losing streak in this format against England.
However, Hetmyer's unbeaten 104 led the hosts to 289 for 6 while Cottrell’s career-best 5-46 restricted the visitors within 263. Earlier, after winning the toss the visitors invited the hosts to bat first. The veteran opener Chris Gayle knocked 50 off 63 balls. The other opener John Campbell was the first wicket to fall off Plunkett for 23.
Then, Gayle along with Shai Hope continued his domination before bowled by Adil Rashid. After that, Shai Hope went back for 33 while Darren Bravo removed for 25. But it was Shimron Hetmyer who carried on his innings and smashed a ton including 7 fours and 4 sixes. Among others, Jason Holder scored 3, Carlos Brathwaite 13 and Ashley Nurse scored 13*.
In reply, England got early blow as Cottrell dismissed Jonny Bairstow for the duck. The visitors were that time 1 for 1. After that, Cottrell removed another opener Jason Roy for 2. Then Joe Root and Eoin Morgan took the charge, added 50-run-stand before Root’s departure for 36. Morgan continued his innings and scored 70 off 83. Ben Stokes 79 off 85 balls was the highest individual score of the England innings. However, the pair added 99 runs before Morgan was being stopped by Cottrell.

After captain’s departure, Stokes took the charge and made a 69 run stand with Jos Buttler. It was the last mentionable partnership for the visitors in their innings. Buttler added 34 and dismissed by Holder. Among others, Moeen Ali, Tom Curran, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett and Mark Wood scored respectively 12, 0, 15, 2 and 2 not out. England were all out for 263. Cottrell claimed 5 for 46 while Holder took 3 for 53.
