Ross Taylor is going to touch a new landmark of New Zealand’s all-time leading run scorer in the ODIs format. The former Black Caps captain Stephen Fleming scored 8007 runs in his 279 matches which is the highest runs among Kiwis.
Taylor has already earned 7957 in just 217 ODIs at an average of 48.22, including 20 ODI-ton. He now needs just 51 runs to achieve this landmark. New Zealand will play the final ODI against Bangladesh tomorrow in Dunedin. Taylor has the chances to overtaking this spot during that game.
"I guess it'd be nice, but hopefully there's a few runs left in me. Flem was someone that I looked up to as a player growing up, and when I first made the Black Caps as well," Taylor said to the local reporters on Tuesday.
"My mentor, Martin Crowe, used to always say to try and get to these records, but you're just setting up for the next guy to come along and beat them. Hopefully, in years to come Guppy [Guptill] and Kane [Williamson] can come and beat it as well," he added.
However, the 34-year-old batsman has made his ODI debut in March 2006 and, now become one of the vital batsmen in Kiwis batting-order. The Kiwi is registered himself as one of the best batsmen in New Zealand’s all-time-cricket history.
