The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) gears up for a T20 league ahead of the 50-over Dhaka Premier League (DPL), with which the new season will start.
The maiden edition of the T20 cricket tournament is likely scheduled to kick off on February 25, said CCDM coordinator Amin Khan.
The tournament will be named after Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Twenty20 Cricket Tournament-2019.

“We had plans to arrange another Twenty20 Cricket Tournament for the premier cricket after hosting Dhaka First Division T20 Cricket Tournament successfully. The tournament we have planned to start prior to the looming edition of the DPL,” Amin Khan said on Saturday.
“All the 12 participating club’s teams will take part in the tournament, which is being organized as a part of the preparation for the local players so that they could perform well in the Dhaka Premier League,” he added.
“We had planned to host such kind of tournament for so long. This year we will leave no stone unturned to execute the plan. The tournament will be held with the participation of the local players only,” he added.
He revealed that 12 participating club’s teams, splitting four groups, will take part in the week-long tournament. Each group champion team will advance to the semi-final.
The winners of the semi-finals will play the final of the DPL T20 Cricket Tournament at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur in the first week of the March.
In that case, the schedule of the DPL will be deferred for a week. Previously, the 50-over tournament was all set to begin on March 1.
With two-three days gaps, the CCDM, the guardian of the country’s domestic cricket clubs, will start the DPL, considered as the most coveted tournament of the country on March 6 or 7.
