Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan is satisfied to have used the payback opportunity against West Indies at home in the just-concluded two-match Test series.

Bangladesh whitewashed the Windies team in the series as they earned their biggest ever Test victory – by an innings and 184 runs – in the second and final Test in Dhaka.

It seemed the hosts looked determined to give back what they had received in the Caribbean islands in July when they were humbled in the two-match Test series in quite similar fashion.

“It’s not about giving a reply. They used their home-advantage, we used ours. [But] after losing like that (in the West Indies) we had a lot to prove. We have at least done that in our backyard,” Shakib told reporters after the match.

“To be honest, I was very demanding because I badly wanted to achieve something. I am happy that the team management and the players also believed that we can do it.

“I don’t think anyone expected the way we performed in the West Indies [in Test] though we did well in the shorter formats. We wanted to do something, so that people can at least forget [the series defeat in July], or realize that we have taken the home-advantage and did whatever was possible,” he said.

It is the first time that Bangladesh have inflicted an innings defeat and Shakib, being the captain, is delighted by this acheivement.

He said: “We (Bangladesh) have played over a hundred Test matches. [But] we have done it (winning by an innings) for the first time. Of course, it is something special.

“We’ve played against relatively weak teams and still we couldn’t do anything like this. So, I think this is a great achievement.
