Bangladesh batsman Mahmudullah Riyad said on Saturday that playing Test cricket with a positive intent helped him earn success in the recent times.
Mahmudullah struck a brilliant hundred against West Indies in Dhaka on Saturday to answer his critics who raised doubts over his ability as a Test cricketer.
The right-handed batsman made 136 runs against the visitors as Bangladesh posted 508 runs on the board at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium to enthrall the handful number of fans at the venue.

Bangladesh spinners ran riot as the Windies team were reduced to 75/5 in the remaining 24 overs that forced the visitors to trail by 433 runs at the end of the second day. But it was Mahmudullah’s work-man like innings that looked to have made all the difference.
Mahmudullah, who struck his second Test century against Zimbabwe earlier this month, seemed determined not to waste his chance when he got it against West Indies.
“I think I made slight mental adjustments [for Test] cricket as I felt I would try to bat the way I do it in the ODI’s, I wanted to bat positively if the first ball is there for me to hit for a four I would go after it [that is mindset I am carrying now],” Mahmudullah told reporters after the match.
“I have been thinking from the second Test against Zimbabwe, I decided to take care of my mentality. I wanted to remain positive, nothing more than that,” he added.
A few raised eyebrows when he scored a century against Zimbabwe as it came after a gap of eight and a half years but the way he constructed the innings against West Indies indicates there are still more to come for him in the longer formats.
