Mohammad Mithun certainly didn’t quite look like the force in Test cricket that he is in the ODI cricket. Even though he had a half-century to his name in the two Test matches he played, his discomfort was prominence and there was even questions about whether he has the required temperament to play the Test format.
The batsman himself didn’t disagree with the notion completely but is hopeful that he would overcome the adverse situation as he grows with maturity.
“The difference here is that the bowlers have many qualities. It is true that we are not playing on batting-friendly wicket,” Mithun said. “In the domestic leagues, we have flat wickets which allow lots of loose balls. But here the bowlers are good and the conditions are tough as well. In all, it is difficult to bat. Nevertheless, no matter how hard it is, as a batsman I must accept it and overcome.”

Knowing that he gets the chance to bat in an important position and his favorabl position too, which is good for a relatively new Test player like him, Mithun said that onus is now on him to deliver and cement his place with good performance.
He said: “I have got the chance at a very good position. It's certainly a big achievement for me that I'm batting at a good position. If I want to cement my place [in the team], it has to be done with performance. I'm trying to improve day-by-day, to put in my best efforts. Still, it is not possible to succeed in every innings, be it due to the conditions or because of my own mistake. I am trying to overcome these.
“Of course, you have an Advantage when you bat in your own position. If you bat in a position that you’re used to, it doesn’t feel different. But the other positions might appear to be unknown. I am currently batting in a position that I’m used to. I have batted at this position before and I enjoy it.
“Manny things depend on the conditions. My expectations hadn’t been met to say the least. There is another Test ahead. I’ll to do well if I get a chance.”
However, the 28-year-old feels that scoring runs is important regardless of the condition. Does not matter if the conditions are batting friendly or conducive to bowling, it depends on the batsman as to how he thrives, Mithun believes, saying that his batting style (attacking or defensive) would depend on the condition.
“If the conditions are like this (first Test), you can get out anytime, because the bowlers get a lot of help. The ball behaves differently at different times. It's not just in difficult conditions, a batsman is never successful until he scores some runs. Whenever he gets the runs, his batting will become very normal. So, scoring runs is important in any conditions. No matter how much time I spend on the wicket, if I can’t make runs it will neither increase the total, nor will it add to my personal record,” he said.
