Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam feels that giving more time will allow the spinners to grow better game sense as Test cricket is a difficult format.

Taijul echoed the same sentiment as skipper Shakib Al Hasan regarding growing game sense as far as the spinners are concerned. He is hopeful the game sense will develop a lot with experience.

Shakib, after the opening Test against West Indies, urged the spinners to develop their game sense despite their valiant effort that helped them earn a 64-run win.

“I think we need to develop [game sense] it. But you need to give time. You will see lots of bowlers doing well after three-four years in Test. Test cricket is a difficult format. Perhaps seeing from outside it looks the same, but the situation changes quite drastically inside the field. When we get down the ground we have to notice a lot of things so you need to give time,” said Taijul.

“See Miraz [Mehidy Hasan] came into the scene probably for two years while I am around for four years and there is newcomer Nayeem Hasan. I won’t say we did badly but we need to develop our game sense. When we will spend some more years at that point Nayeem and Miraz will certainly come up with better performances,” he added.

Taijul added that he is not too worried about the competition as there are many spinners in the country vying to earn a spot in the national team. He firmly believes that his work ethic will be enough to get past them unless he is absolutely unlucky.

“If you keep it [competition] in your head, then there is a lot that you can store. If you don’t, then there is nothing. Playing cricket itself is a competition and I will play only if I perform and will be dropped if I am not performing. There are times when you might not be picked due to the match situation and you must accept it. All you need to do is perform,” said Taijul.
