Bangladesh left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan said that he is happy to have picked 200 Test wickets as it came in a winning cause.

Shakib returned figures of 2/22 making himself quickest to 3000 runs and 200 wickets by achieving the feat in his 54th test to eclipse English all-rounder Ian Botham who reached it in his 55th Test.

“I wouldn’t feel good to reach 200 wickets if we didn’t manage to win. So, now I am feeling great now,” said Shakib.

“I really cannot understand if I feel very well [to surpass great all-rounders]. But as I said, when we win the match, it escalates the level of happiness,” he added.

Shakib added that he is relieved to have played the game unscratched as he has returned after an injury lay-off.

Shakib was ruled out of the series against Zimbabwe after his long-standing finger injury flared up midway through the Asia Cup. He participated in the Asia Cup, postponing his surgery – a decision which eventually led to an aggravation of his injury.

The 31-year-old was out of action for two months and even feared his left little finger might never heal completely again, but managed to pass the fitness test ahead of the squad selection for the West Indies series.

“There is a few days’ time [before the second Test], so I’ll be able to do some work on my fitness. I batted for three sessions before playing in the first Test. That was not enough without any fitness-work considering that I have resumed playing after two months. That was difficult for me. But I have finished the match successfully. I am sure that I will play the next match in a better condition,” said Shakib.

“I was very nervous in the dressing room until facing the first ball. But I wasn’t as nervous as I had thought I would be.

“There was a lot of pressure while taking the last catch [of Jomel Warrican], because they started building a partnership and everyone had started to panic though I was calm. It’s a big achievement for me that everything ended well,” he added.
