BCB North Zone were unable to carry the momentum after getting two centuries from Naeem Islam and Jahurul Islam. They were all-out for 445 runs on the second day despite finishing at 335/2 on the previous day against Islami Bank East Zone in Bangladesh Cricket League.

However, North Zone strengthened their grip on the match with a good bowling display that allowed 125 runs to the opponents while taking four of their wickets.

Starting the second day’s play with two centurions at the crease, North Zone lost the wicket of Jahurul Islam after adding only four runs to the total from the previous day. Jahurul’s departure for 104 runs saw Mizanur Rahman, who retired hurt for 63 runs on day-one, returning to the crease and getting dismissed with 92 runs to his name.

Naeem top-scored for the side with a 137-run knock. But the rest of the batting lineup failed to put up any substantial innings.

Enamul Haque Jnr bowled brilliantly for East Zone, taking three scalps which included the important wickets of Naeem and Mizanur. Hasan Mahmud took his tally of wickets to four in the first innings by bagging three of the opponents’ last four wickets on the second day.

Mohammad Saifuddin also got a wicket while Abu Jayed finished the innings with two wickets to his name.

East Zone saw Rony Talukder belt a half-century in their batting innings, but the next three batsmen in the lineup could not manage to stay on the crease for long.

Sunzamul Hossain removed opening batsman Shamsur Rahman for 24 runs, before dismissing Rony for 54 runs in the very last delivery of the day. Ebadat Hossain claimed two wickets in-between Sunzamul’s scalps, as Zakir Hasan and Afif Hossain fell cheaply.

Tasamul Haque, who remained not out on 24 runs, will resume East Zone’s innings on the third day. The team is currently trailing by 320 runs in the innings.
