The Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong once again proved to be lucky for Mominul Haque, who smashed yet another century at this venue to help Bangladesh dominate West Indies on the opening day of the first cricket Test on Thursday.
Mominul hit his eighth Test century, equaling Tamim Iqbal for most hundreds by Bangladesh batsman as the hosts reached 216-3 at tea.
The diminutive batsman, adorably touted as ‘pocket dynamo’ remained unbeaten on 116, also his sixth century at this venue in just eight Test matches, by the second interval of the day. In the process he brought up 1000 runs at this venue as only the second batsman after Mushfiqur Rahim. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan was batting on 27.
Mominul’s dominant innings kept West Indies at bay throughout the session in which it could take just only one wicket.

The visitors worsened its situation by dropping Mominul on 67, when wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich couldn’t hold on a catch behind the wicket off leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo’s bowling.
Mominul came at the crease in the first over of the day after the dismissal of Soumya Sarkar whose first test innings in a year lasted just two deliveries.
He and opener Imrul Kayes (44), shared a 104-run second-wicket stand but the later was dismissed on the stroke of lunch, tapping a turning delivery off left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican to short-leg.
Kayes had some early reprieves, when Roston Chase dropped a catch at second slip off Roach's bowling when he was on three and again on 16, when he holed out to deep square leg but Warrican was ruled to no-balled.
West Indies fast bowlers—Shannon Gabriel and Kemar with raw pace tested Bangladesh batsmen but Mominul remained unfazed and looked set to share another big partnership with Mohammad Mithun.
Devendra Bishoo extracted considerable amount of turn and bounce off the pitch to trouble Bangladesh batsman and rewarded with the wicket of Mithun (20).
Mominul who after which kept Bangladesh unscathed along with Shakib raised his century with a boundary past point off Roston Chase.
