Bangladesh batsman Mohammad Mithun insisted that he would have to start on zero when he would come to play another match and therefore he wouldn’t like to make things complicated.

Following his superb ODI performance, Mithun made the cut in the Test squad during Bangladesh’s second match against Zimbabwe but had to leave the ground with a duck. However he came back strongly, hitting 67 runs in the second innings.

Mithun was part of BCB XI which faced West Indies in the two-day practice game. He though made only 27 runs but spent a considerable amount of time at the crease and remained unbeaten, which he said would give him some fuel ahead of the Test match against the Caribbean side.

“I have faced their bowlers, so gained some idea. That’s it but I have to start on 0 in the next match. If you say what’s the takeaway from the match, I will say that the advantage of playing the practice match was that I faced their bowlers,” Mithun said on Monday at the MA Aziz Stadium.

The right-hander wants to refrain himself from gaining too much confidence from anything, stating that over-confidence can lead to downfall.

“Yes I gained some confidence but it would be problematic if I become over confident. I need to give it a right balance,” he opined.

Mithun was not ready to compare the West Indies spinners with Bangladeshi after facing the visitors’ spinners in the practice game.

“Actually I don’t understand it much but what I think that everything depends on the wicket. On favourable wickets, any spinner can pose a threat, but on flat wickets, even a world-class bowler can find himself in wanting,” he said.

The batsman, who is now considered as one of most valuable elements in Bangladesh’s middle-order, said he wasn’t aware what strategy is taken to stop Bangladesh’s batting failure that left them in perilous situation against Zimbabwe.

“I wasn’t with the team. I was here for practice match, so I don’t know the plan well. But nobody plays bad cricket intentionally. Obviously, there will be a plan in place. Hopefully, we can execute it well.”
