A group of adolescent cricketers played an entertaining and high-voltage match teaming up with past and present cricket legends of the country at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today. The 10-over-aside match was organized to mark the World Children’s Day on 20 November.

On World Children’s Day, the world will shine a spotlight on children’s rights and needs around the world, elevate the voices of children and young people as active participants in decision-making and help increase the number of individuals, corporates and governments acting in support of children, especially the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.

As a part of this initiative, UNICEF Bangladesh in collaboration with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) arranged a friendly cricket match where disadvantaged children and adolescents from UNICEF’s partner NGOs Brac, Aporajayo Bangla and Shurovi participated in this thrilling cricket encounter amid the cheers of few thousand child spectators in the stands of the national cricket stadium.

“The courage of these children to play side by side such highly professional and accomplished cricketers, clearly proves their potential to face future challenges and lead the nation to make it a place fit for all children,” said UNICEF Bangladesh Representative Edouard Beigbeder.

Former Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar, former Bangladesh opening batsman Hannan Sarkar, current national player Taskin Ahmed, Bangladesh women’s team member Suraiya Azmin, among others payed in this friendly cricket match while a group of adolescent boys and girls took part in both the teams.

World Children’s Day is UNICEF’s annual global day of action for children, by children. This year, the world will come together to help build a world where every child is in school, safe from harm and can fulfil their potential.
