Knowing that a result like win is almost impossible, Zimbabwe senior batsman Brendan Taylor urged his colleagues to trust on their ability to deal with spirited Bangladesh in their bid to eke out a draw.

With 218 runs lead, Bangladesh are in the position of dominance at the moment.

“It’s not over. It’s certainly not. But it’s going to be a monumental challenge for us to even draw this game. We’ve batted 105 overs. If we bat four sessions, that’s 120 overs on day five. Realistically, it will be a miracle for us to draw this game, but we have to have the belief that we have the batters and mental strength to do that,” Taylor said.

Zimbabwe was in a path to leave the game in parity until the dismissal of Brendan Taylor who blasted a superb 110. Taylor also rued for his dismissal at the time when his service was badly needed for his side.

“The timing was wrong, wasn’t it? I didn’t really want to hit it up, I should have tried to hit it down with a flat sweep, but there was a bit of bounce, top edge a little bit,” he opined.

“I just felt that with the newish ball, the spin is a little harder with the turn and bounce, so for me I wanted to try and sweep, get down the other side and rotate the strike. Unfortunately the timing wasn’t right, I would have liked to bat through with Chakabva there and take some more time out of the game tomorrow.”

“I was pretty disappointed in the last Test match. Our second innings was going really well and I threw my wicket away,” Taylor said of his dismissal in the first Test.

“So I tried to be a lot more disciplined in this game and tried to bat as much time as possible. That’s all we have to do, bat time out of the game. We’re not going to win this game, we can only draw this game. Getting a hundred in these conditions, it’s very foreign to us so it’s very rewarding, but it’s an uphill battle.”
