Mominul scored a superlative hundred under trying circumstances to bail out Bangladesh on the opening day of the second Test match in Dhaka on Sunday (November 11) as the hosts posted 303 runs, losing five wickets.

With a total of 69 runs in his last eight innings, the onus was on Mominul to deliver for his team as Bangladesh were going through a batting dilemma in the recent past, failing to score over 200 runs in their last eight innings.

The pressure only doubled as Bangladesh were reeling at 26/3 before the left-hander along with Mushfiqur Rahim (111*) shared the team’s best-ever partnership for the fourth wicket by putting up 266 runs to resist the visitors from taking any further grip after the initial blow.

Mominul, who was dropped on nine runs did not appear to be in total control but somehow managed to deal with the pressure to remain unbeaten on 25 runs before going to lunch.

However, he looked to be in totally different mood once he returned to the crease and set the tone of the match on his own terms in the second session when he scored 80 runs from 77 balls to indicate his ability of playing shots all across the park.

“There’s a bit of regret of course. My dismissal brought along another wicket. It would have been better had I batted for longer for the team,” he said after the day’s play.

“I think it is one of my best hundreds. It was an interesting innings. It was tougher than some of my other hundred because it is a very interesting wicket.

“I should have scored in the last five or six innings. You get out of the rhythm sometimes. Maybe something goes wrong with the routine, which I try to maintain.

“I don’t try to complicate my batting. It is easier if you focus only on seeing the ball and playing the ball. You have to be mentally strong. Sometimes people say things when I am not scoring runs but that’s normal. Everyone would,” he added.
