Dinesh Chandimal has been ruled out for two weeks due to a grade 1 groin tear that he sustained during the first Test between Sri Lanka and England, in Galle. In his absence, Suranga Lakmal will captain the team in the second Test, starting on November 14.
Chandimal strained his groin during England’s first innings. He batted in pain, scoring 33 and 1, respectively and did not field in the second innings while Lakmal led the side. England won the the match by 211 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Uncapped batting all-rounder Charith Asalanka has replaced Chandimal in Sri Lanka’s squad which now has 14 members following Rangana Herath's retiremement and Lahiru Kumara's ouster due to breach of discipline.

Asalanka, 21, top-scored for Sri Lanka Board Presidents XI with a 68-run innings before retiring out in the second two-day practice match against England and earned a place in the squad despite not being named among the five standbys.
The all-rounder skippered the Sri Lanka Under-19 team in the World Cup in 2016. In 29 first-class matches, he has amassed 1185 runs besides taking 24 wickets.
