Zimbabwe scored at run rates of only 2.40 and 2.75 in Sylhet. It looked ugly but was such effective that they ended up winning the Test by 151 runs to stun the whole Bangladesh.
With a rare series victory on the line, Hamilton Masakadza, the skipper of the visiting side, underlined the importance of such ugly runs once again.
While the pitch of Sylhet was slow and offered some extra bounce, the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium’s wicket is completely unpredictable. Sometimes even the groundsmen struggles to know the exact nature of the wicket.

Knowing those facts, Masakadza said they would stick to their policy to score ugly runs.
“I think the wicket won’t be that much of change that we played in the first Test. So I don’t really think to score that quickly. But it will be very important to put runs on the board because it is definitely a result wicket here. Putting runs on the board will definitely be important but I don’t really think you have to do it quickly or become too worried about what about in the first innings,” Masakadza said.
“Mirpur wicket is always been a bit of stranger. You will never really know what you really get. I think the groundsmen also struggled to know what it does sometimes. Yes, [at the moment] it does look little bit dry, very similar to the one-day wicket that we played on. So I expected to play in same wicket.”
According to Masakadza, executing the plan well will be key regardless of the nature of the wicket.
“I think as a team the biggest thing is whatever happens you have to do what you do well. We have to execute well. The team that executes the skills better on the day will win the game. I don’t think it will give anyone advantage, I think it’s just coping with whatever the conditions we get, dealing with them and making it suitable,” he said.
