According to Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah Riyad, Bangladesh are going into the second Test with an empty head as they are not sure about the wicket.

The wicket of Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium always remained a mystery to the hosts in the past and it was no different in this case either and exposed the helplessness of the skipper before the media.

“We will go into the match empty-headed,” said Mahmudullah. “Everyone will agree with me on this; Mirpur's wicket is always a little unpredictable. If you do not get what you expect, you will have to adapt to the situations. We will try to play according to the pitch conditions. We have already decided some don’ts. At the same time, if each player sensibly plays his strong zone shots, we can perform. We have these things in the back of our minds.”

However, Mahmudullah is confident that the Tigers will come back in the series and added that some of his statements following the first Test were largely due to frustration.

“Earlier, I had said that there is no point playing Test cricket like this. Actually, some kind of frustration works, because you hope to win against Zimbabwe by using the conditions of the home grounds,” he said.

“Everyone has such expectations and some personal expectations as well. If that is not fulfilled... every boy is working hard, spending a lot of time after strength and skill, the bowlers, the batsmen are working according to their preferences. The only expectation now is to bring these things on the field,” said Mahmudullah, adding that he is looking forward to a unified effort.

“I do not like the senior-junior issue. When we play, all 11 players go on the field with equal rights. You might say that someone has more experience or someone is a little less experienced. Still, when we go to the field, we go with the best eleven. ‘I can win the matches’ is how things should be thought about whether he is the number 11 batsman or a bowler. Often small contributions can turn the game around. If I know my role, performing well gets easier,” he concluded.
