Bangladesh head coach Steve Rhodes was unfazed by the team’s batting collapse in the Test series against West Indies in the recent past, saying that his charges are capable of beating even a tough condition to win a Test at any place of the world.

He pointed out Bangladesh’s Test win against Australia and England in extremely difficult wicket at home turf when batting was the most difficult task for any batsman in the world.

“We have beaten Australia even in spin conditions. What do you play for? You play to win. They beat England. It doesn’t matter how you do it. We won,” he said.

Knowing that Bangladesh need to prove their credential by winning a Test in a tough overseas condition, Rhodes explained to why they were vulnerable in the West Indies.

“We have had difficult wickets against those oppositions and we have also had very difficult wickets in overseas conditions. In Antigua, if we had 11 Ricky Pontings, we might have scratched a 100,” he opined.

“It was a difficult pitch and an important toss. Whilst it was a disaster for us, it was extremely difficult conditions. The best players in the world on that wicket against that attack. They had very good catching on that first day.”

“I am not disillusioned about that. There’s progress to be made. I am not making excuses. We could have done better. I am a teacher and it is about trying to make players better. Give us a chance, let's see what happens and how these batsmen go. Hopefully, they will prove that they can do it not just in Bangladesh, but abroad.”
