Mushfiq hogs all the spotlight

Country’s top wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim will be center of all attraction as he will be up for grabs in the Bangladesh Premier League’s players’ draft Sunday.
Rajshahi Kings have opted against retaining the in-form batsman for the upcoming edition of the tournament while the wicketkeeper-batsman failed to come into terms with Chittagong Kings, who are yet to sign a player from A+ category.
The players’ draft program for recruitment of local and overseas players will be held in a local hotel. A total of nearly 186 local players will be up for grabs while there will be 365 foreign players available in the lottery-based draft.
“Mushfiq will be put up in the player’s draft. Probably his negotiation with Chittagong Vikings did not materialize fruitfully that prompted us to put him in the draft in the A+ category,” said BPL governing council member-secretary Ismail Haider on Saturday.
Mushfiq, the most successful Twenty20 batsman for Bangladesh in 2018 with 390 runs in 13 matches at an average of 39, will be put on draft with a price of tag of Tk 75 lakh.
Five A+ players – Mashrafe Bin Murtaza, Sakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mustafizur Rahman, Mahmudllah have been retained by their old franchise while Liton Das moved from Comilla Victorians to Sylhet Sixers.
The draft, which will start at 11:00 am (Bangladesh Standard Time), will complete the lineup of seven franchises with each allowed to take maximum 12 local players and nine foreign players, including retained players and direct recruits.
Under a revised rule, franchises were given a chance to recruit only two foreign players directly this season and all of them have completed the process before the draft.
The price tag for the local players is – A+ Tk 75 lakh, A Tk 25 lakh, B Tk 18 lakh, C Tk 12 lakh, D Tk 8 lakh and E Tk 5 lakh.
