Mohammad Mithun and Ziaur Rahman weathered the storm well for Khulna Division after the team suffered a shaky start in their Tier 1 clash against Barisal Division in the National Cricket League.

However, Salman Hossain gave Barisal a breakthrough by dismissing Mithun for 72 runs a while before the umpire called it stumps.

Batting first, Barisal registered a total of 299 runs with Nuruzzaman top-scoring for the side by playing a 74-run innings. Abdur Razzak and Al Amin Hossain, on the other hand, were the pick of the bowlers for Khulna as they bagged three wickets each.

In reply, Khulna became 88/5 despite good efforts from Soumya Sarkar and Tushar Imran after the openers, Imrul Kayes and Anamul Haque, fell cheaply. Soumya and Tushar made 30-odd runs each but that was not enough to lift their total past the 100-run mark.

A 106-run stand from Mithun and Ziaur, however, offered some respite to the Khulna-based team, but they are still 100 runs behind at the end of the second day. Ziaur will resume the innings for Khulna with his score of 46 on the third day.

Sohag Gazi and Kamrul Islam have so far scalped two wickets each for Barisal while Monir Hossain and Salman Hossain got one wicket apiece.
