Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has been released from the hospital after removing the pus from his injured finger through a successful surgery on Sunday.
Dr. M. Ali, senior consultant & coordinator Ortho, Trauma, Joint Care & Wellness Centre Apollo Hospitals, briefed media regarding the update of the all-rounder at the hospital premises.
“Shakib Al Hasan came to the Apollo Hospitals [Dhaka] on September 27 with severe pain and swelling in the little finger on his left hand. Apollo hospital took the matter seriously and after consulting with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) we quickly decided to undertake a surgery. Within two hours of his admission we had the surgery done, where we removed 50-60 ml of pus from his infected finger. We also cured the infection and after giving the antibiotic we received a good response. After 72 hours, his infection is under control but it will take some more time and he will have to continue taking the antibiotic as he has been discharged today,” said Ali.

“His injury definitely requires surgery later which can only be done at least after three weeks as the infection has to be under control,” he said.
“There was a huge blister on his finger and pus was dropping from it and it could have blasted anytime so if we didn’t undertake the surgery his hand could have been in danger. It was an angry looking blister and we had to take immediate action and we have successfully done that,” he added.
Shakib, who was expected to fly out to the USA for the surgery, was admitted to the Apollo Hospitals as he failed to tolerate the pain that forced him to go under the knife to remove the pus.
Cricfrenzy learnt that if the surgery was delayed by a few hours it could have had a severe impact on him as his injured finger got infected.
According to Shakib, it is expected to take at least three months before he can return back to cricket.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan and Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza had gone to wish the all-rounder a speedy recovery, before he was discharged from the hospital.
