Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza is not sure whether Soumya Sarkar and Imrul Kayes, who have been included in the Asia Cup squad on Friday, have done their homework properly in order to make their comeback count at the international levels.

After the unexpected injury of Tamim Iqbal and the prolonged lean patch of opener Liton Kumar Das and Nazmul Hossain, the selectors were forced to recall the two seasoned campaigners.

Bangladesh succumbed to a heavy defeat against Afghanistan in their last group match, as well as against Indies in the opening game of tournament’s Super Four fixture. Both Liton and Nazmul are yet to cross the double digit mark in the tournament.

It looked Mashrafe remained quite doubtful whether the newly added duo of Soumya and Imrul will be good enough to take the pressure of the high voltage match considering he is not aware how much they have worked out on their technique.

“I do not know what they technical aspects they’ve worked on. Whether they are fixing the problems – which put them out of the team – or not, these things will matter a lot in this tournament,” Mashrafe told reporters at the press conference after the defeat against India.

“And especially if you think about Afghanistan's match, they [newly added batsmen] have to deal with more difficult bowlers. It surely won’t be easy for anyone. Not even for those, who are already in the team. Everything is difficult in international cricket.

“Still, you have to score runs, bat and bowl well and whoever plays, have to take a little responsibility,” he said.

The skipper further added that he is in a state of surprise to learn about the sudden decision of seeking the services of the duo of Soumya and Imrul, especially in the unfamiliar conditions of the UAE.

“I'm still not sure about those who are coming, there has been no discussion. The matter is not clear yet. They were out of the team in the same way, by not performing.

“They are returning to the team in such conditions and such pressure,” said the ODI captain.
