Asia Cup triumph leads to pay hike for Tigresses

Bangladesh created history after beating India in the final of the Women’s Asia Cup. The Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] has now shifted its focus to the women’s team which was not much-hyped in the country – unlike its male counterpart – until it carried out the herculean task of ending India’s domination in the tournament.
In a bid to improve the cricketing setup in the female arena, the working committee of BCB has come up with a number of proposals, which include holding a domestic women's T20 tournament in the coming days and also building an academy in Chittagong that will be entirely dedicated to women's cricket.
However, the most important of those plans is having a revised salary structure for the female cricketers. The working committee has also proposed to introduce insurance policies for the women's team similar to the ones already in place for the men's team.

As per the proposed new salary scheme, the cricketers will be divided into four categories according to monthly salaries of Tk 20,000, Tk 30,000, Tk 40,000, and Tk 50,000. Previously, there were three categories allowing monthly salaries of Tk 10,000, Tk 20,000, and Tk 30,000.
Enayet Hossain Siraj, the chairman of the BCB's working committee, has denied the claims of negligence over women’s cricket. He also opined that the Asia Cup win wouldn’t have taken place if the board hadn’t paid enough attention to the betterment of women’s cricket.
“We have not found any negligence over women's cricket after assessing all aspects. There has been a lot of talk about the board not doing anything for the improvement of women's cricket, which is not true. The Asia Cup win would not have happened if the BCB did not give importance to women's cricket. The women's team undergoing a long training camp under foreign coaching staff and physio was the reflection of what we have invested,” Siraj told The Daily Star.
