Wasim Akram says ICC powerless to Indian cricket

This is something that most knew all along. While the 'I' in ICC might stand for 'international', in truth, however, it is perhaps Indian cricket that is behind it all along. Wasim Akram might be of the same opinion as he claimed that ICC are powerless against the BCCI.

The last time India and Pakistan played a bilateral series was in 2013, which Pakistan won 2-1, but the two teams haven’t played a bilateral series against each other since then. And Wasim Akram is of the opinion that ICC don’t have the strength to persuade the BCCI to organize a series.

“I don’t think ICC has the power to pursue BCCI, but again I have always said people-to-people contact is necessary. Politics and sport should be separate,” Akram was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The legendary former left-handed Sultan of Swing stated that the popularity of India-Pakistan rivalry transcends that of the Ashes between Australia and England.

"Twenty million people watch the Ashes while a Pakistan-India match is watched by a billion people,” he insisted.

The political tension between the two nations means that cricket is being deprived of a great rivalry. While Wasim Akram blames the ICC and BCCI, PCB chairman Najam Sethi earlier said that even BCCI want the series to happen but the objection from the Indian government has been a hurdle in their path.
