Javed Miandad feels pity for Soumya Sarkar

The first thing that comes into the mind of people when they hear the name of Javed Miandad is the last-ball six that he hit off the bowling of Chetan Sharma in 1986 to win the game for Pakistan. With 4 runs needed off the last ball, Miandad smacked the ball for a maximum to become the first player in the sport to win the game in such a fashion.
When asked about Dinesh Karthik’s six of the last ball, Miandad asked: “How many meters the boundary rope was away from the center of the pitch?”
He then went to speak about how it is easier for batsmen of this era to hit sixes off the last ball of a game. With the advent of T20 cricket, such incidents have become the norm in the game as the former Pakistan captain believes that it was hard for batsmen of his time to do the same thing.

“Hitting last ball six has not remained unusual in modern-day cricket. My six is always compared with the other batsmen but one should remember that in those days, hitting a six off the last ball was very very difficult. No batsman would ever think of it,” the legendary Pakistan batsman was quoted as saying by PakObserver.
“Bowling was difficult then and the game was fought very hard but now with the introduction of T-20s, power hitting has become very common. Now even scoring 30 in an over has also become possible.”
He, however, conveyed his sympathy for Soumya Sarkar for being hit for a six in the last ball while also congratulating Dinesh Karthik for his feat.
“I didn’t watch Karthik’s game because of my other commitments but have read about the match in the newspapers. I congratulate the batsman because the batsman required a lot of confidence to hit a last ball six. It is pity for the bowler.”
